Setúbal
The Setúbal wine region is one of the oldest and most prominent wine areas in Portugal. Located on the Setúbal Peninsula, southeast of Lisbon, this region is known for its fortified wines, such as the famous Moscatel de Setúbal, as well as high-quality red and white wines.
The Mediterranean climate and favorable geographical conditions, including sand and clay soils, contribute to the production of excellent quality grapes. The most common grape varieties in the region include Moscatel de Setúbal, Castelão (also known as Periquita), Fernão Pires, Arinto and Trincadeira, among others.
Wines produced in Setúbal range from fresh, aromatic white wines to full-bodied red wines and sweet fortified wines, such as Moscatel de Setúbal, which is aged in oak barrels, developing complex flavors of dried fruits, honey and spices.
In addition to the quality of the wines, the Setúbal region is also known for its natural beauty, with vineyards that stretch from the hills to the banks of the Tagus River, providing stunning landscapes for visitors.
